OUR BELIEFS
Greystone is a church that believes…
God is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe. He is and has always been eternally one in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He created the universe and holds all things together. Genesis 1-2; John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:15,16; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30
We are made in the image of God, and thus called to be holy as he is holy. We are the supreme object of God’s creation. Genesis 1:26,27; Ephesians 2:10; 1 Peter 1:15,16
We are separated from God because of our sin. Although we have been created in the image of God, we all became curse an attitude of rebellion toward God. This is called sin. The middle letter in sin is “I”, and the ongoing desire to want my will over God’s will separates us from God. Romans 3:23; Mark 10:17-27
We are all eternal. Each of us is born with an eternal soul. However, each person is given the choice at some time in life to either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be separated from God is hell. To be in relationship with Him is heaven. Heaven and hell are places of eternal existence. Ecclesiastes 3:11; John 3:18, 36; Romans 6:23
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is the only hope of salvation. Jesus was born through a virgin named Mary. He lived a sinless life and became the perfect sacrifice for our sins by dying on a cross. He demonstrated His power over sin and death by coming back to life on the third day. He is now our Prayer Warrior before the Holy Father, and will return again to earth to bring us to the heaven he has prepared for us, where He will reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 9:27,28; 1 Peter 3:18
Salvation is a free gift to anyone who calls on God. None of us can ever live good enough to cancel out our sin before God. Only by trusting in what Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross can a person be saved from sin’s penalty – which is spiritual death and eternal separation from God. When God grants us forgiveness and a new beginning with Him, He gives assurance in His Word that He will continue performing it until the day of its full consummation. Ephesians 2:8-10; Philippians 11:3-6
Prayer is our greatest ministry and connection to God. Prayer is a personal means of being in God’s presence, but it is much more than sharing with God all the things that we want or even need from Him. As far as God is concerned, the point of prayer is not to get answers from Him, but to have perfect and complete oneness with Him. Prayer should become a constant conversation that naturally develops as our love for God develops. Mark 1:35; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Proverbs 3:5-6
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is a person who is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He is a supreme gift of the Father who lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides every regenerated Christian with power to live above the standards of this world, to understand spiritual truth, to act in accordance with what is right. We believe that the Holy Spirit grants each believer a unique gift from which he or she uses to serve God in obedience and purpose of life. We believe that the power of the Holy Spirit is still actively present in our world today, through His Church, as seen through miracles and signs of wonder. We as Christians are to seek to live under His control daily. Luke 11:13; John 14:26; Romans 8:26-27; Galatians 5:25
The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is God’s word to all. It was written by fallible men, yes, but under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Scriptures are inspired by God and contain no error or contradiction in revealing truth, the character of God, and guidance for a life pleasing to God. We believe the Bible is our exclusive authority on matters of faith and practice, and there are no other writings similarly inspired by God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Living Out Our Faith. We recognize that we cannot bind individuals in matters of morality where the Scripture is silent on such subjects. However, we do believe in taking the principles of Scripture, informed by reason and historical Christianity, and seeking God’s guidance in such matters, with the understanding that each believer, ultimately, is to be led in those areas by the Lord, to whom he or she alone will be accountable before God. Proverbs 30:5-6; Romans 8:12-14; John 16:13
